A meeting at the Accreditation Commission for Higher Education Institutions discusses the harmonisation of applied basic science standards with the European Bologna project for the accreditation of basic science disciplines
Amman - The Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions (AQAC) held an important meeting to discuss the Bologna Science Education Project supported by the European Union within the Erasmus Plus projects and its application in basic science faculties in Jordanian universities, in the presence of a number of experts and academics involved in the project.
The President of the Commission, Prof. Dr Zafer Al-Sarayra, gave a detailed presentation on the special accreditation criteria for applied and technical disciplines for the bachelor's degree in universities and university colleges, as well as the general framework for technical disciplines in the professional track of the bachelor's degree in universities and university colleges, indicating that the Commission is currently working on issuing new bases for the accreditation of applied basic science disciplines in Jordanian higher education institutions that are consistent with the Bologna criteria for the accreditation of basic science disciplines adopted in the European Union countries. Dr Al-Sarayra stressed that the new bases focus on the skills and competencies that students must acquire during their studies, in order to enhance their readiness for the labour market and keep pace with the requirements of modern higher education.
For his part, the Vice President of the Commission, Prof. Dr. Saad Bani Mohammed, stressed the need to start applying the Bologna Science Education Project to Jordanian universities participating in the project, taking advantage of the support provided by the European Union, thus contributing to improving the quality of academic programmes and enhancing the international recognition of Jordanian degrees.
Dr Fahmi Abu Al-Rub, Director of the Bologna Science Education Project in Jordan, pointed to the possibility of generalising this project in the future to the rest of Jordanian universities that include science faculties, stressing that this will contribute to unifying standards and achieving integration with the European higher education system.
This meeting comes as part of a series of coordination meetings aimed at developing education
The BASE project project aims to elevate higher education in Palestine and Jordan by implementing the Bologna Process in one program chosen from the multiple programs in the colleges of science at each partner university in Palestine and Jordan. The project will utilise Bologna’s standards and philosophy to develop these selected programs by creating curricula and establishing the context and environment supporting this development at each HEIs.
