📍 Location: Online
🏛 Organized by: University of Barcelona (UB)

Event Description:
The University of Barcelona organized the BASE WP3 – Curriculum Development Webinar 2, delivered by AQU Catalunya and presented by Concepció Herruzo Fonayet. The session focused on European degree accreditation requirements and the use of Subject Benchmark Statements as a key tool for curriculum reform under the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).

Participants were introduced to accreditation frameworks within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and explored how benchmark statements help define learning outcomes, competencies, and programme structures for science degrees. The session also highlighted AQU Catalunya’s experience in programme and institutional evaluation and its role in supporting quality assurance in higher education.

The webinar brought together 26 participants, including academic staff, university managers, and representatives from higher education institutions in Jordan and Palestine, as well as stakeholders from accreditation bodies and ministries of higher education. The discussion emphasized how these tools can support universities in modernizing science programmes, strengthening internal quality systems, and aligning curricula with Bologna Process standards.

This activity contributes to the BASE Project’s mission of enhancing science education and promoting quality-driven curriculum reform across partner universities.

Participants:
Academic staff and university managers from partner universities.

The BASE project project aims to elevate higher education in Palestine and Jordan by implementing the Bologna Process in one program chosen from the multiple programs in the colleges of science at each partner university in Palestine and Jordan. The project will utilise Bologna’s standards and philosophy to develop these selected programs by creating curricula and establishing the context and environment supporting this development at each HEIs.
